Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491)

On November 16, 2019, the new Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) went into effect. This visa allows skilled professionals to reside and work in Australia for up to five (5) years in certain regional locations.
Pathway for Guests

If you are invited, you may be able to apply for this visa. You must have received the following when we delivered your letter of invitation:
been nominated or sponsored by a qualified relative residing in a defined region by an Australian State or Territory government agency
obtained the score stated in your letter of invitation based on the elements in the points test nominated an occupation that is on the appropriate skilled professions list a suitable skills assessment for that occupation not yet turned 45 years of age General Skilled Migration: A New Point Test (GSM).
At the very least, you should be able to communicate in English fluently.
Depending on the region, the application process for various regional development projects may change. Our office can help you with the application procedure.
Complete applications for the new regional visas will be processed first. Medicals should be completed ahead of time, and applicants should include National Police Clearances for all applicable nations with their applications.

New Regional Postcodes

The Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services, and Multicultural Affairs, the Hon. David Coleman MP, announced a revision to the definition of regional Australia on October 26, 2019.

All applicants from outside of Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane will be able to apply for State and Territory Nomination, Family Sponsorship, and regional study through regional points.
